Foundation Sprouts STEM Learning at Sallie Z

The Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education is helping Sprout STEM learning at Sallie Zetterower Elementary. The Foundation donated nearly $1,000 to purchase STEM resources for students.

"I was able to showcase these resources to students and parents during Sallie Z's recent Family Math & Science Night," said Ansley Mays, the teacher who wrote the grant. She purchased STEM literature, an iPAD and an Osmo program for her second-grade students. The resources will also be used next year in Sallie Z's new STEM Exploratory Lab.

SZES is the third elementary school in the district to establish a STEM lab.  Brooklet Elementary and Mill Creek Elementary began their labs this year and are experiencing success. The labs allow for all of the schools' kindergarten through fifth-grade students  to experience focused, hands-on STEM learning projects at least once each week just as they do art, music and physical education.

The district's remaining elementary schools are also seeking to either establish labs or increase STEM learning opportunities for students. Grant funding helps provide student resource tools that support the faculty and curriculum.
